About this Workshop

Description

In this Workshop, Learners will build a miniature 3-D puzzle of a Philippine Kalesa, a two-wheeled horse-drawn carriage.

In the Philippines, the Kalesa was one of the earliest modes of transportation, as it has been around since the Spanish colonial era.  It was called the "Rolls Royce of Manila," since most of the elite class during those days would ride it to go from place to place.  In addition to being a tourist attraction in itself, it is also used nowadays by overseas and local tourists to view attractions and famous landmarks in Manila, the capital center of the Philippines.  To add glamour and nostalgia, it is also used by some wedding couples as their bridal car to bring them to the church and to their wedding reception.  Most of the kalesas have been preserved, and may still be found in the streets of Intramuros, Manila, Vigan and Laoag.  Learners will surely get a good glimpse of what it was like during the early Philippine times, while also gaining a better understanding of the unique cultural personality of the Filipino people.

I innovated the use of 3-D puzzles, and handcrafted the two-wheeled horse drawn carriage with LED lights myself.  I started assembling 3-D puzzles in 2017, and I am excited to educate others in this kind of technique and innovation.  I am so happy to share my art and culture with you!

Please note: This Workshop is recommended to ages 10+ as it requires a certain level of dexterity, as well as a gentle hand to manage and assemble the materials.  Younger Learners would benefit from having an adult nearby to assist as needed.

Albert LuyonView Profile

I am an engineer by profession and an entrepreneur by occupation.  The combination of these skills gave rise to me being called a "Technopreneur".  Because of my love for tinkering and innovating things, my mind would always find ways to be able to create something that will help solve some problems people are currently experiencing. Having created these special crafts, my mind would then transition to my entrepreneurial spirit and look for ways to turn it into a win-win business endeavor.  I also love teaching and sharing ideas with people and give them much needed value that they in turn would create something from it and pass that forward to other people.

I am excited to meet Learners from around the world and tinker and build with them!
