Description
During our workshop, we will make three natural beeswax candles. We’ll make the first one for practice, just to get to know the process. Once you are comfortable with the technique, we will make another two. Then, you will have a chance to make a wish for yourselves, and offer good luck to others.
Since ancient times, candles have been an integral part of peoples’ lives. In Slavic culture, they are used to light homes, and for making wishes and healing. In many fairy tales, we find stories in which candles are used to help people (especially kids) to find their way home, to ask the Universe for good luck, or to share secret signals with friends.
Beeswax candles are very popular in Latvia. During any art and craft fair here, you can buy different kinds of candles, all made out of beeswax. I was taught to make this kind of candle about five years ago, by a lady from Russia. I found making these candles to be simple, but meaningful and fun. Here in Latvia, I now teach others how to make them.
You can make beeswax candles any time you like, but according to our traditions, there are certain times of the year when candles are most powerful. Candles made at the beginning of February (02,02,2020 for example), and on full and new moons, are believed to be the most magical.
When you make your beeswax candles, you’ll enjoy holding the natural beeswax, that has come all the way from Latvia. You will especially love the scent. As we make the candles we will quiet our mind and focus our attention - a little meditation.
This workshop is great for children and adults of all ages.
