Anita Janković
Hi everyone! I'm Anita Janković, i'm 23 and I come from Serbia. I'm a psychology student who currently lives in a small town on the south of Serbia, named Niš (Nish). I love connecting with people because it gives me opportunity to learn about their cultures and languages that I'm so passionate about. I'm fluent in Spanish and English. I am also a volunteer with the Red Cross organisation in Niš.
I'm looking forward to work with you, guys!
The craft I am teaching is embroidery. Embroidery is so deep rooted in Serbian culture. From ancient times, it was one of the ways in which our grandmothers decorated their wardrobes and tablecloths. We still find this type of decoration today as a recognizable symbol on Serbian folk costumes. Also, there's a belief that Serbs had new for embroidery even before they populated Balcan area.
My favorite things about living in Serbia are the people and food. The people here are very cordial and hospitable. They like good company and jokes and are always ready to help. Also, we have "pljeskavica" (sort of barbecue meat) and "ajvar" (winter salad made from red bell peppers and egg plant), traditional Serbian specialties, which is food to die for.
