About this Workshop

Description

In this Workshop, we will learn about the history of pizza and make the classic Italian margherita pizza.  We will also make focaccia, the Italian flatbread from which pizza was developed.

I think that for most people, as soon as pizza is mentioned, Italy immediately comes to mind. Pizza is a food that we have been eating since ancient Roman times. We love pizza so much that we usually eat it at home many times a week, but we especially enjoy sharing a pizza on the weekend with our family when we can spend some time all together.

The first time that I made pizza I was about 7 or 8 years old, when my grandmother taught me how to make it.  I continued to make it with my mom as I was growing up.  Today, as a chef, I make pizza every day with my coworkers.

I am so excited to meet you and for us to make some delicious pizza and focaccia together!

This Workshop is recommended to children ages 10+ and is great for a family to do together.  As it requires the use of an oven and a knife, please plan to have adult supervision.

Hi everybody!  I'm Manuel, an Italian chef from Rome.  I started cooking when I was about 6 years old, with the help of my mother and my grandmother.  My passion for cooking was born from my hunger for delicious food!  As I grew up, I realized that I could make cooking my profession, and that this job could also allow me to travel-another thing I love very much. Therefore, at the age of 16, I packed my bags and left for my first work experience away from home, precisely in Florence, Italy.  Since then I have never stopped traveling and working. I have worked in Florence, Milan, Rome, New York and Los Angeles.  I am happy that, through GLOMADO, I am able to virtually travel to your kitchens to share my passion for cooking with you.  I welcome the whole family to join me in learning the history of pizza as we make our delicious homemade pizza together!

Amazing opportunity to cook and learn from a pro with my kiddo!

by Jacqui on

Chef Manuel is amazing. His kindness, patience, and experience were nothing short of spectacular. I signed up my almost 5 year old and I did a lot of helping but Chef Manuel was able to keep it at his level and my kiddo was so proud of his pizzas! The learning of the history and why he chose what he had us make was another incredible experience and my son even shared it with his Dad when he showed off his work! Highly recommend this session.

Wonderful teacher!

by Corynn on

My husband and daughters (7 and 10) truly enjoyed their class with Chef Manuel. He was kind, patient, and engaging. My daughters were so proud, and they made pizza AGAIN for dinner! They really enjoyed learning about the history of pizza, too. I can't recommend this class highly enough. Thank you, Chef!

Fun!

by Sarah on

My 10 year old daughter really enjoyed turning her love for pizza into a love for making pizza. Chef Manuel gave clear directions, stayed patient and provided some of the history of pizza and focaccia. The pizza turned out yummy and we can’t wait to try it again!

Authentic Experience

by Breanne on

This workshop was fun and educational. Manuel did a great job of tying in history and geography to the cooking lesson.

Perfect winter break activity

by Heather on

My sons (ages 8 and 12) thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. The pizza was declared "the best I have ever had" by my picky eater, and the focaccia was also excellent. Chef Manuel was very patient and made sure we were following along at each step. We will definitely do another workshop.
