About this Workshop

Description

In this Workshop, Learners will create a personalized picture frame for their favorite photo and/or memory.  We are going to recycle an empty cereal box, and use that as the foundation of our frame, and then we'll decorate it in various ways.

This is a making/tinkering project that teaches Learners how to construct and design a personalized frame that can hold their favorite photo.  It incorporates the concepts of collage art making. After learning these basics, Learners may go on to make another frame in their spare time that will either mirror the frame they created during the class session or use other textures, materials, and recycled items to make a frame with 3-Dimensional aspects. Post-lesson they will be challenged to be more creative and think of unique ways to make their special memory even more unique.  This project strengthens sensory motor skills, hand-eye coordination, highlights geometry (constructing and stacking shapes), critical thinking, analysis, and textured learning.

I began creating personalized picture frames as a way to give my former students a special way to remember candid classroom moments that I captured of them.  When I was a Principal, I was able to capture photos of my students during the year from events, programs, and class parties. I selected my favorite photo of each student, and created a personalized frame for each child as a gift for their families.  The children were both surprised and excited to see their photo in a frame that was made just for them!

I am so excited to meet you and to share this fun project with you!

Erycka ShorterView Profile

Hi! My name is Erycka. I'm a teacher, an entrepreneur, and a mommy! I was raised in a small town with only one flashing light, called Vandalia, in Michigan. Wisconsin has been our home since 2018, and we love every bit of it. While in the classroom, I always enjoyed challenging young minds to imagine and create, because it gives you the opportunity to think outside the box. My daughters and I always have fun during Family Craft Time, and I can't wait to make new artistic memories with you. Always remember: You were born on purpose, with a purpose, and you're the only one who can do the things you do. You are special, and I can't wait to meet you!

My love for crafting began as a child, when I attended summer camps that always included a special time for arts and crafts. It was always fun, and I looked forward to what the instructor had planned for us. I've never lost my love for creating, and since then I've passed it on to my students over the years, as well as to my daughters.

My daughters and I always have at least one craft night a week. We love to bring out our box full of goodies, such as scraps, string, crayons, markers, glue, you name it, and see what new things we can create. Depending on the time of year, we also like to make Holiday specific crafts, such as Valentine's Day and Christmas themed projects.

I am excited to be offering my puppet making workshop to you! Imagination is always a fun way for children to express themselves, and what better way to do that than to create new characters! What is great is that it doesn't matter how you create and decorate them, there is total freedom of expression!
